Nghe nhiều đến "nouveau riche", "nouvo riche", "trung lưu mới nổi", … nhưng gần đây mình càng mục kích sở thị nhiều hơn. Việt Nam đang phát triển, nhiều người đang giàu lên nhanh chóng. Nhóm người "nouveau riche" ngày càng nhiều và đang trở thành một hiện tượng xã hội.
Định nghĩa trên Wikipedia: "Nouveau riche (French for "new rich"), or new money, refers to a person who has acquired considerable wealth within his or her generation. This term is generally to emphasize that the individual was previously part of a lower socioeconomic rank, and that such wealth has provided the means for the acquisition of goods or luxuries that were previously unobtainable. The term can also be used in a derogatory fashion, for the purposes of social class distinction, to describe persons with newfound wealth as lacking the experience or finesse to use wealth in the same manner as old money—persons from families who have been wealthy for multiple generations."
Định nghĩa của Urban Dictionary: "People who have suddenly got rich and therefore lack class. People now rich, but lacking in family background and aristocratic wealth."
Dịch theo nghĩa thì có lẽ là "trọc phú mới nổi", với các đặc điểm:
- Mới giàu lên nhanh chóng
- Từ tầng lớp có điều kiện kinh tế – xã hội thấp hơn đi lên nhờ tiền
- Sử dụng sự giàu có để đáp ứng cơn khát nhu cầu vật chất mà trước đây không có được
- Thiếu nền tảng gia đình, văn hóa, thậm chí giáo dục tương xứng với "tầng lớp" mới được nâng cấp.
Nouveau riche hoàn toàn khác với khái niệm "trung lưu mới nổi" (emerging middle-class) ở phần chất. Nghĩa là có vỏ nhưng thiếu mất ruột!
